A comic queen remembered. Kirstie Alley, who died in Dec. 2022 at age 71, made people laugh since the 80s, first breaking out as Rebecca Howe in Cheers, a role which would earn her an Emmy and a Golden Globe. And over the years she went through more than a few transformations, evolving from a rising star to a sitcom diva, and later into a queen of camp.

In addition to leading roles in Cheers and Veronica’s Closet, Kirstie conjured giggles in films like Look Who’s Talking in 1989 and Drop Dead Gorgeous in 1999. Embracing her over-the-top side, Kirstie competed on Dancing With The Stars in 2011 and 2012, before later appearing on the Ryan Murphy romp Scream Queens in 2016, and appearing on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK in 2018.

Her death was announced Dec. 5, 2022. A statement from her family said, “To all our friends, far and wide around the world… We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.

“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
