Two Tennessee sisters who were home alone as their house was being ransacked by burglars were able to hide in a cabinet and make a panicked 911 call which saw the men responsible arrested as they tried to escape.

The girls - aged 16 and 13 - were inside their Nashville home about 9.15am Monday when they looked outside the kitchen window and saw two men dressed in black trying to break open the back door.

The eldest sister called 911 as both girls ran into the bathroom in their parents' bedroom.

Once there, they stuffed themselves inside a cabinet, side-by-side on a shelf, as they whispered to the dispatcher, WKRN reported.
